Abstain from "abstinence only."

I hate to bring politicians' families into discussions of the issues, but nonetheless, I can't help but wonder about the implication of Sarah Palin's daughter's pregnancy. Obviously, one can't place responsibility for it on any one thing, but it at least raises the issue of the effectiveness of abstinence-only sex education. And the thing is, it doesn't work! We've seen studies and reports that have demonstrated this. Furthermore, teaching kids about contraceptives doesn't introduce them to information with which they're entirely unfamiliar; rather, it clarifies confusion and dispels rumors.

To help banish that waste of resources that is abstinence-only education from our schools, visit the Planned Parenthood website and sign up and/or donate.
